On Saturday 2nd July, I had the pleasure of photographing Fay and Adam’s wedding in Sheffield. Their wedding day started with a lovely ceremony at Christ Church before jumping on a double decker bus and heading to Wood Lane Countryside Centre for the reception.
Due to Covid restrictions, other than a Zoom call, Adam, Fay and I only had one chance to meet a couple of weeks before the wedding. Our catch up to go over a few final details turned into a three hour wedding planning session ranging from group photos to arranging the order of the day and timings. We were all ready for the big day!
As a photographer, I love capturing everyone’s emotions. Fay and Adam promised they would not disappoint and they were right! Fay’s Maid of Honour, kick started the tears for everyone when she presented Fay with a heartfelt poem about their friendship starting all the way back in primary school. The tears didn’t last long and laughter soon erupted when a few of us misunderstood the final line of Fiona’s poem: “…So let’s get you down the aisle to ruin your life!” instead of “...So let’s get you down the aisle to the love of your life!”
The emotions were back out in full swing during their church wedding ceremony and speeches. Fay looked absolutely stunning as she walked down the aisle with her Dad to meet an emotional Adam at the alter. Adam’s touching tribute to his Dad bought tears to your eyes and you could hear and see just how excited he is for the next steps of their lives; not only as husband and wife but soon to be a family of three with Baby Mitchell arriving in October. It really came across in the photographs making my job as their photographer a dream.
A wedding is all about the people and throughout the entire day, there was so much to photograph from the competitive lawn games to a bromance moment by the pond. You could tell how close both families were and how much everyone cared for Fay and Adam. My style of photography is very natural or as I like to call it “ninja style”. I often stand back a little to go unnoticed while friends and family mingle to capture those natural, candid photos as the day unfolds. My ninja skills don’t always go to plan and on this occasion, when I was spotted it provided with some more comedy gold moments!
A massive shout out has to go to the Maid of Honour, Fiona and Best Man, Ash. Every bride and groom needs an Ash and Fiona! Both Fiona and Ash made sure Fay and Adam’s wedding day ran smoothly and effortlessly. They kept Adam was topped up with Budweiser and sausage rolls and Fay with “nosecco”, rounding up guests for family photos and being my assistant while we nipped off for bride and groom photos. Ash and Fiona, I can’t thank you both enough and it’s safe to say, you can definitely add wedding planning to your CVs!
Fay and Adam were great to photograph and the light during golden hour was perfect. Couples portrait sessions are split into 15-20 minute sections and spread out throughout the day. That way, the bride and groom aren’t away from their wedding guests for too long and it gives us an opportunity to get photos in different lights. Fay and Adam were on the ball and had already scoped out a couple of locations for some their photos. Between the three of us, we worked together to capture their beautiful portraits and made the most of what Wood Lane Countryside Centre had to offer.
Congratulations once again to Fay and Adam Mitchell. Here’s a selection of photos from your special day.
