Going… Going… Gone!

For those who know me, know I’m a sucker for a good cause whether it’s ABF: The Soldiers’ Charity to Macmillan Cancer Support. Every year I aim to go at least one thing for a charity close to my heart. This time I even had a bit of help from the pandemic…

In 2014, I was introduced to the wonderful charity, Little Princess Trust – https://www.littleprincesses.org.uk/, which make real hair wigs for children and young adults with hair loss due to treatment and illness. In 2016, in honour of my Dad who passed away in 2015 and a man who constantly told me to “cut that blanket of hair off” and “get rid of that rag doll hair”, I had 2ft of hair cut off and donated to the charity.

Again, I went back to the hairdresser’s chair in March 2019 for another Little Princess Trust hair donation measuring 1.5ft. It was to be my last… or was it?

June 2019 approached and I was soon diagnosed with two types of skin cancer. I felt as though I would be jinxing myself if I went back for a hair cut in case further treatment was required and chemotherapy needed. Luckily enough, the doctors, nurses and surgeons at Nottingham’s Circle Treatment Centre, QMC and City Hospital, other than two operations and reconstructive surgery, no further treatment was required. No chemotherapy. No chances of losing my hair. Surely that’s a sign to do one more hair donation?

If that wasn’t a sign, three days later and Boris Johnson made the announcement that we had all been reluctantly expecting: lockdown.

Fast forward to 2021, it seemed the ideal time to go for the one final chop in the name of charity: Little Princess Trust.

Supporting local business is more important than ever, so I have to say a massive thank you to Chriss at Flicks Hair Salon in Toton, Nottingham for cutting my 1ft plait off and working wonders to highlight (cover my greys but sssh!) and re-style my hair.
